- Everton Morris, Technology Management Executive, Re-Migrant expressed his thoughts on Guyana’s progress regarding the telecom liberalization. He speaks to the increased job opportunity it will provide and strength for the Anti-Trust regulation for the Telecom Sector. Having witnessed numerous Telecom liberalizations in developed countries, Morris says this will reduce corruption and open the market for new organizations.
- He further called for the strengthening of our data privacy, retention, security, and data protection regulations. Advising that new regulation would only diminish innovation in the market and lead to the demise of companies as it has in the past.
- Guyana is deficient in many of the significant improvements via liberalization, i.e., back-office automation both public and private. There is also a larger component, how foreign ownership is regulated and the sourcing of infrastructure which adds security to our Nation. Many gas stations and convenience stores can now become Payment and ATM hubs to make money. There only need be some local content minimum requirements.
- Marris stated that Guyana’s attempt in reinvent the wheel is neglecting the primary rule in technology, borrow, reuse and then innovate. We can learn from the rest of the world and make the quantum leap into the 21st century.
