Wireless DSL Consortium: What’s (Not) in a Name?

Six companies have formed the Wireless DSL Consortium, including heavy hitters Nortel and Intel. While the commitment of these top tier vendors demonstrates the importance of broadband wireless, the DSL reference is misleading and even confusing. The consortium has decided on a stop-gap approach, and will utilize the Vyyo solution, which is based on the Data-Over-Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) standard developed by the cable industry. The group also includes ADC, Conexant Systems, Gigabit Wireless and Vyyyo, two broadband wireless equipment vendors.”]
