Verizon report: Ransomware top malware threat of 2017, moving into critical systems

Verizon released its Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR) based on 53,000 security incidents from 67 organizations around the world. The most common types of attacks that resulted in breaches involved the use of stolen credentials. Financial gain was the biggest motivating factor for attackers, accounting for 76 percent of breaches. Espionage-related breaches went down as a percentage of all breaches, but also in absolute numbers, says researcher Gabriel Bassett. DDoS attacks are getting smaller over time, and most attacks are short measured in just minutes.”]
