Uber Deployed ‘Surfcam Spyware’ in Australia to Crush the Competition – Report

A former Uber employee allegedly created and deployed a piece of information-gathering software called Surfcam. The software was reportedly used to help Uber poach drivers from a ride-share competitor called GoCatch. Uber denies that it s a spyware and says it’s not a sophisticated hacking tool. In 2017, Bloomberg reported that the code was used in Singapore against Grab, the local ride-sharing company’s local rival, but it was thought to be limited to incidents uncovered in Singapore in 2017.
