Cybersecurity firm RiskIQ found 4.2 million mobile apps matching common tax keywords and brands. The firm also found 1,235 instances of phishing sites targeting online tax filers and 468 suspicious URLs. In 2018, RiskIQ detected approximately 1.3 million unique phishing hosts, or nearly 3,500 a day. The risk of financial loss and identity theft from these scams is even higher, as criminals are leveraging more detailed personal data, says senior director of cybersecurity at RiskIQ.
