Thousands of MikroTik Routers Hacked to Eavesdrop On Network Traffic

Chinese security researchers discover 7,500 MikroTik routers have been compromised to enable Socks4 proxy maliciously. The vulnerability in question is Winbox Any Directory File Read vulnerability (CVE-2018-14847) in routers that was found exploited by the CIA Vault 7 hacking tool Chimay Red. More than 370,000 routers are still vulnerable to the vulnerability, even after the vendor has already rolled out security updates to patch the loophole. The victims are spread across various countries Russia, Iran, Brazil, India, Ukraine, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Ecuador, the United States, Argentina, Colombia, Poland, Kenya, Iraq, and some European and Asian countries.
