This New Android Malware Can Physically Damage Your Phone

A new strain of Android malware called Loapi is capable of performing a variety of malicious activities. The malware mines the Monero cryptocurrency so intensely that it destroyed an Android phone after two days of testing. Cybercriminals behind the malware are distributing the malware through third-party app stores and online advertisements that pose as apps for antivirus and porn sites. Loapi failed to make its way to Google Play Store, so users who stick to downloads from the official app store are not affected by the malware.
