‘The Mask’ malware sets standards hackers are sure to follow

A Spanish-speaking group called “The Mask” has been involved in cyberespionage since at least 2007. The group, aka Careto, has targeted government institutions, embassies, energy, oil and gas companies. It can also take from networks various encryption keys used in machine-to-machine communications. The discovery of The Mask is expected to spark a cyber-arms race, Kaspersky Lab’s Dmitry Bestuzhev says. The best defense would be to catch the malicious app after it is installed, he says.”]
