Target Settlement: What About the Banks?

A federal judge denied Target’s motion to dismiss the suit in December. The settlement likely will have no impact on the lingering class action lawsuit filed on behalf of banks. Security and privacy experts say the settlement didn’t go far enough in helping victims. Some think it could help make information security and data breach prevention a higher priority at other institutions. The lawsuit was filed by banks and credit unions that filed the suit, which was consolidated by Target, alleges that the breach violated a Minnesota law that requires card holders to pay up to $10,000 in compensation.”]
