Symantec on Network Time Protocol (NTP) reflection DDoS attacks

Security researchers at Symantec have spotted a series of Network Time Protocol (NTP) reflection DDoS attacks during the Christmas Holidays. Nearly 15,000 IP addresses were observed on December 16th were observed in the NTP DDoS attack likely belonging to a botnet. The attackers exploit the monlist command for the offensives, which can redirect megabytes worth of traffic to the target IP Address. The attack is likely to be a result of a vulnerability in NTP’s NTP 4.2.7 version.”]
