Study: Data breaches Get More Costly for Businesses

Ponemon Institute study: Breaches cost companies about $202 per compromised customer record last year. The study was based on a study of breaches at 43 large companies from 17 different industries. The biggest cost to companies that suffer data breaches is lost business, the study’s chairman says. Ponemon: “People do care deeply about data being stolen” The study also showed breaches end up costing significantly more for companies that are experiencing them for the first time than they do for firms that have suffered previous breaches.”]
