South Korean Hosting Firm Pays $1 Million Ransom

South Korean web hosting firm Nayana has agreed to pay $1 million to unlock servers encrypted by ransomware. 153 of the company’s Linux servers were forcibly encrypted by the Erebus Ransomware gang. Nayana’s website appears to be running Linux kernel 2.6.24.2, which was compiled in 2008, and uses Apache version 1.3.36 and PHP version 5.1.4, both released in 2006. Attackers initially demanded a ransom of 10 bitcoins per crypto-locked Linux server, worth about $5 million.”]
