Sony Patch Uncloaks Hidden DRM Code

Sony releases software patch that removes controversial cloaking technology found in copy protection software. Critics had slammed the software for being invasive and difficult to remove. XCP uses some of the same “rootkit” cloaking techniques normally found in spyware or viruses. The patch was posted to Sonys Web site on Wednesday to “alleviate any concerns that users may have” Sony will not say how many of its CDs use the software, which has been shipping on some Sony CDs since early 2005.”]
