Software Executive Sentenced for Hacking

Jay E. Leonard sentenced to 12 months supervised probation, $2,500 fine after pleading guilty to one count of unauthorized access to a protected computer. He is the owner of Boulder, Colo.-based Platte River Associates Inc., a company that builds software used in petroleum exploration. He illegally accessed a password-protected area of the Web site belonging to a competitor, Zetaware Inc. He chaired a staff meeting in which “a tentative plan was discussed to exploit” the downloaded files, the plea agreement states.”]
