Sodinokibi Ransomware Encrypts Records of Hundreds of Dental Practices

A ransomware attack hit a remote data backup service and encrypted files from dental practices in the U.S. Hundreds of customers relying on the backup solution had their data locked by the Sodinokibi file-encrypting malware. Brian Krebs learned from Brenna Sadler, director of communications for the Wisconsin Dental Association, that the ransomware locked data of about 400 dental practices, and that for up to 100 of them the records were restored. A reverse engineer analyzing the malware could find a flaw that may allow deriving keys to restore files on multiple infected systems.
