Shutdown’s Impact on Federal IT Security

NIST suspends work on President Obama’s cybersecurity framework. Cybersecurity experts say shutdown could encourage cyber-adversaries to increase attacks and probes. The White House had designated Oct. 10 as the day NIST would issue a preliminary framework. The final version of the cybersecurity framework is due to be issued this coming February. The last time the federal government partly shutdown, during the Clinton administration in 1995 and 1996, government was far less dependent on IT for its operations. The increased reliance on IT and the Internet since then has made government systems more vulnerable.”]
