Senator wants privacy protections for device location

Senator Ron Wyden says law enforcement agencies need court-ordered warrants to get location-based information from mobile devices. Wyden: “Surreptitiously turning somebody’s cell phone into a modern-day tracking device is a pretty serious intrusion into their privacy” Department of Justice has been reluctant to support a push to rewrite the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) The DOJ says the law helps law enforcement agents track terrorists, computer hackers, drug traffickers and other criminals.
