Rootkit Possible Culprit in XP BSoD

There are indications that the system crashes and the dreaded blue-screen of death (BSoD) that many Microsoft Windows users reported experiencing after installing this week s batch of security updates may be caused at least in part by malware infestations on the affected machines. Microsoft is warning of a wave of phishing campaigns pushing tech support scams via malicious links to phony Amazon, Alibaba and LinkedIn web pages. Thanks to auto-play, it’s possible to crash Windows systems by simply inserting the drive into the USB port, no further user interaction necessary.
