Richard Clarke and Howard Schmidt are trying to sell vendors, executives, politicians on a vision of a more secure future. At best, for CSOs, they’re preaching to the choir; at worst, their comments seem needlessly alarmist attempts. Clarke: Only by getting a FOIA exemption, narrowly written, will we ever be able to persuade companies that they can trust the government with information about vulnerabilities or hacks. Clarke and Schmidt do so for the nation; CSOs are influencing policy, spending and awareness in an organization.”]
