Retina-X Banned by FTC From Selling Their ‘Stalking’ Apps

The FTC has reached a settlement with Retina-X Studios, LLC, the company behind three’stalkerware’ mobile applications. Stalkerware apps allow third-parties to monitor one’s mobile device without the user’s knowledge. The company stopped selling the apps in 2018 after its cloud storage was breached twice using unencrypted account credentials in February 2017 and with the help of ‘obfuscated’ credentials, in February 2018. The FTC says it will seek to hold app developers accountable for designing and marketing a dangerous product.
