Microsoft’s claims that Internet Explorer 9 blocks attacks just don’t add up, a security researcher says. “They’re presenting only half of the equation,” says Chet Wisniewski, a Sophos security researcher. Microsoft says IE9’s App Reputation, or “App Rep,” blocks malicious downloads from PCs running Vista or Windows 7. “No way do I ever get near a factual argument,” he says, referring to the attacks by drive-by hacks. IE9 is unable to block exploits of software like Adobe Reader and Flash, Apple iTunes or Oracle’s Java.”]
