Report: Yahoo Complied with Government Spying Order

Report: Yahoo complied with classified U.S. government directive last year. Yahoo reportedly built software to scan email accounts for content of interest to intelligence officials. Decision to comply with directive reportedly made by Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer roiled other company executives. Yahoo called the report “misleading,” arguing that “the mail scanning described in the article does not exist in our systems” It’s still unclear exactly what kind of order Yahoo received from the government. Other tech companies, including Twitter, Apple, Facebook and Microsoft, denied scanning incoming content and said they had not received such a request.”]
