PopSci demonstrates that many bike locks are completely ineffective when you freeze them. Locks are not supposed to keep your stuff safe in most cases, IMO. They just ensure that a thief has to make a lot of noise in order to steal things from you. If somebody was hammering a lock on the street, somebody would notice and probably call the police. If you were a thief, you would use a much bigger / heavier hammer with far fewer blows to the shackle needed. Locks deter thieves, but they don’t stop them.”]
