Ransomware Increasingly Hits State and Local Governments

Ransomware attacks targeting state and local governments in the U.S. have increased over the past four years. Only about 17 percent of these victims paid a ransom to their attacker, researchers at Recorded Future found. Such attacks are a valuable way for attackers to advertise their particular strain of ransomware, researchers say. The number of such attacks against local and state governments has increased in the past 18 months, but it’s not due to specific targeting, but rather a crime of opportunity, they say.”]
