Ransomware Attack Leads to IT Shutdown for Irish Hospitals

Ireland’s Health Service Executive shut down IT systems serving hospitals in the wake of a ransomware attack early Friday. HSE shut down all its IT systems to prevent spread of the malware, forcing clinicians to use paper-based processes. An international cybercrime gang was behind the attack, Irish minister of state Ossian Smyth says. Security experts praise HSE’s decisive action and refusal to pay a ransom for not paying a ransom. The attack exploited a zero-day flaw and mainly affected information stored on central servers, Reuters reports.”]
