Ransomware Adopts DoppelPaymer Name Given by Researchers

Researchers from CrowdStrike reported that two different ransomware infections were being operated under the same BitPaymer name. CrowdStrike dubbed this new variant DoppelPaymer due to the similarities and confusion of both variants using the same name. The devs behind this new ransomware variant read CrowdStrike’s report and decided to adopt the name Doppelpaymer for their ransomware as can be seen on their Tor payment site below. While it is always fun when a malware adopts a name or logo that a reporter or researcher creates, it is an important reminder that while we are watching the threat actors, they are watching us too!
