The March 11 train bombing in Madrid highlighted the importance of ensuring rail security. The Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration have been testing bomb detection technologies at select train stations. The TSA hopes to learn how well these technologies work in open environments, how much they delay commuters’ travels. Specially trained dogs are also used to conduct random explosives screenings of Metro passengers.
