ThreatList: Human Error is Behind One Quarter of Data Breaches

The Ponemon Institute and IBM released the 14th annual Cost of a Data Breach report. The average total cost of a data breach has grown 12 percent over the past five years, up from $3.5 million in 2014. The U.S. remains the most expensive industry for data breach costs, at $8.19 million, more than twice the global average. The majority of breach costs occur in the first year after an incident, with a third being incurred more than a year after a breach.
