Privacy advocates find Obama proposal lacking

A coalition of 14 privacy and digital rights groups says the White House proposal contains several “shortcomings” The proposal would allow companies holding personal data to determine whether consumers should be able to demand changes. The White House says the proposal is intended to give consumers more control over their data. The proposal includes “broad exceptions” from privacy protections for large categories of personal information, the groups say. Some business groups say the proposal would create too many regulations for businesses, others say it’s a bad idea.”]
