Popular Meitu App Caught Collecting User Data and Sending It to Servers in China

Chinese app Meitu is a popular photo retouching app with over 10 million users on Android and iOS users. Security researchers have discovered that the app collects user data and sends it to servers in China. The app also checks what mobile carrier the user is using and if the phone is rooted/jailbroken. Meitu app collects phone numbers, IMEI codes, MAC address, and GPS coordinates, data which it neatly packages and sends back to a series of servers. Developers failed to set a filter to trigger this data collection system for Chinese users only.
