Hackers working for the Chinese government deployed attacks against the largest number of industry verticals in the first half of 2019. Chinese hackers attacked company customers from eight out of 19 industry sectors. Cybercriminals were responsible for the rest of the campaigns. The tools Crowdstrike observed in attacks from all threat actors include legitimate utilities, the most prevalent five being PsExec, ProcDump, PC Hunter, 7-Zip, and Nmap. Chinese attackers spread across the following industries: chemical, gaming, healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, technology, and telecommunications.
