National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is reviewing its cryptographic standards for cryptography. NIST is a US-based institution tasked with creating and maintaining de jure standards. The body is required to consult with the NSA when drafting new cryptographic standards. There is no evidence to suggest that the NSA had anything to do with the SHA3 incident but many in the industry have said that trust in NIST has been eroded by the NSA’s actions. The question is that we trust NIST to act in the best interest of the public at large when it comes to cryptography.”]
