NIDS Sent Back to the Starting Block, What Have We Learned?

The Supreme Court of Jamaica found certain provisions of the governments NIDS legislation in violation of the constitutional rights of Jamaican citizens, effectively killing the legislation. There is still considerable interest from the public and private sectors in passing a National Identification law. The future of National Identification legislation will depend heavily on bipartisan cooperation from the PNP and JLP. The courts have told the JLP that prosperity cannot come at the expense of citizens constitutional rights.
