New Mirai Variant ‘Mukashi’ Targets Zyxel NAS Devices

Another variant of the shape-shifting Mirai botnet is attacking Zyxel network-attached storage (NAS) devices. The botnet exploits a vulnerability discovered last month that can allow threat actors to remotely compromise and control devices. A proof of concept for the vulnerability, CVE-2020-9054, was published publicly only last month. The latest variant Mukashi shares some characteristics with previous Mirai variants as well as the botnet from which it was spawned, researchers said.
