New Mexico Sues Google for Mining Children’s Data

New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas filed lawsuit against Google for Education. Lawsuit claims Google is violating Children’S Online Privacy Protection Act. New Mexico AG is asking for $5,000 per violation of New Mexico’s Unfair Practices Act (UPA), fees, state damages, and Google to admit that their actions allegedly violate COPPA, FTC Act, and UPA. Google told BleepingComputer that the claims are factually wrong, that the schools must obtain parental consent before allowing students to create an account on the platform.
