IBM is offering a new service designed to help businesses prepare for a pandemic. Contingency Planning Assessment will help businesses keep operations up and running in the event of a virus outbreak. IBM first ventured into this area as it planned its response to the SARS outbreak in 2003. Health officials in the U.S. are spending US$3.8 billion in preparation for a possible avian flu pandemic, IBM says. The company began developing the service in earnest several months ago, around the time that the World Health Organization began tracking the spread of the virus outside of countries in East Asia.”]
