New FAA drone rules will hinder Amazon’s delivery plans

The Federal Aviation Administration has published long-awaited rules on commercial use of drones. The new rules don’t go as far as allowing automated delivery services like Amazon’s Prime Air. The line of sight requirement will also affect other promising potential applications of drones, such as inspection flights along power lines, gas pipelines and railway lines. DroneDeploy CEO Mike Winn said the removal of the requirement to have a private pilot license to commercially fly a drone would significantly help businesses looking to use drones. Critics say the FAA should have gone further in its rules.”]
