IBM X-Force has been following the evolution of destructive, disk-wiping malware deployed to cause disruption in the Middle East for some time now. The malware, ZeroCleare, aims to overwrite the master boot record (MBR) and disk partitions on Windows-based machines. The tool of choice in the attacks is EldoS Raw Disk, a toolkit for interacting with files, disks and partitions. The attacks are not opportunistic and appear to be targeted operations against specific organizations.”]
