MS Warns of Rogue Antivirus ‘Security Essentials’

Microsoft has warned Windows users to be on their guard against a piece of rogue antivirus software passing itself off as Microsoft Security Essentials. Microsoft said the software installs a fake virus scanner on your machine and]monitors and blocks processes it doesn t like. Researchers have spotted notable code overlap between the Sunburst backdoor and a known Turla weapon. Researchers at Recorded Future report a rise in cracked Cobalt Strike and other open-source adversarial tools with easy-to-use interfaces.
