Microsoft’s Meltdown Patch Made Windows 7 PCs More Insecure

Microsoft releases emergency patch for Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2. Swedish security researcher says Microsoft’s fixes to Windows 7 for the Meltdown flaw allow attackers to read kernel memory at a speed of 120 KBps. Attackers could then install programs, delete programs, change, or create new accounts with full user rights. The issue only affects 64-bit versions of Windows 7, and not Windows 10 or Windows 8.1 PCs, as they still require attackers to have physical access to a targeted system.
