Microsoft Detects More Russian Cyber Attacks Ahead of Mid-Term Election

APT28 hacking group created at least six fake websites to target US Senate and conservative think tanks ahead of the 2018 midterm elections. Microsoft said the fake sites were created over the past several months and registered with major web-hosting companies. The tech giant has so far used the courts a dozen times since 2016 to shut down 84 fake websites created by the notorious hacking group. The revelation comes almost a month after special counsel and former FBI director Robert Mueller filed charges against 12 Russian intelligence officers tied to the cyber attacks on the Democratic National Committee.
