Michaels Breach: How the Fraudsters Pulled it Off

A lead defendant in the 2011 Michaels debit breach has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud and aggravated identity theft. Crystal Banuelos faces a maximum sentence of 32 years in prison and a $1 million fine. Authorities believe she and Angel Angulo stole $420,000 from banks through fraudulent ATM withdrawals. The Michaels POS attack was an attack waged for cash, not cards, says fraud expert Mike Urban. The attack was different from Target- and Home-Depot-style of attacks, he says.”]
