Medical identity theft a rising and significant threat

The Ponemon Institute released their second annual National Study on Medical Identity Theft last week. The study concluded that roughly 1.5 million Americans are victims of medical identity theft. The average cost to resolve a case of medical ID theft is $20,663. The Federal Trade Commission released its annual consumer fraud report earlier this month, and for 11 years straight identity theft topped the list of complaints with 9 million Americans falling victim every year.
