Maze, a variant of ChaCha ransomware, was found by Malwarebytes security researcher J..r..me Segura in May. Maze encrypts files and offers decryption key in exchange for ransom payment. It also automatically copies all affected files to malicious operators servers, according to researchers. It s unclear whether Pensacola, Florida, is paying the ransom, but officials don t know yet whether residents personal information has been breached. Maze operators quickly took responsibility for the incident, saying that they are demanding $1 million in ransom.
