Man Gets 51 Months in Prison for $10M BEC Fraud, Romance Scam

Muftau Adamu was sentenced to 51 months in prison for stealing more than $10 million through romance scams and business email compromise (BEC) fraud schemes. Four other members of a criminal enterprise based in Ghana were also sentenced to prison terms. Adamu and his co-conspirators conspired with others in Ghana to steal millions of dollars from businesses and vulnerable individuals across the U.S. between 2014 and 2018. The fraud proceeds were collected by Adamu in collaboration with four others in collaboration.
