Leapfrog Children’s Tablet Owners Should Remove Pet Chat Now

LeapFrog’s LeapPad tablets for children could be used to locate kids, interact with them, or phish parents for sensitive info. The Pet Chat app on LeapPad Ultimate can expose the location of the table, and thus the kid’s, under certain conditions. The app also creates an ad-hoc WiFi network that broadcasts to wireless devices in its proximity using the SSID ‘Pet Chat’ This is possible because the communication protocol it uses does not require any sort of authentication. The LeapPad tablet itself did not use HTTPS, exposing them to packet sniffing.
