Lavabit is back after a messy legal tangle with the U.S. government. Lavabit founder Ladar Levison shut down the encrypted email service in 2013. Levison opposed turning over Lavabit’s master SSL/TLS key to the government in the form of an 11-page, largely illegible printout with the key’s 2,560 characters in four-point type. The company is relaunching Lavabit with a revamped architecture, including improvements that should make it harder for anyone but the designated user to access an email’s content or metadata.”]
