IoT chip maker Advantech confirms ransomware attack, data theft

Industrial IoT chip maker Advantech confirmed a ransomware attack that hit its network and led to the theft of confidential, albeit low-value, company documents. The Conti ransomware gang is demanding a $14 million ransom to decrypt affected systems and to stop leaking stolen company data. The company has implemented countermeasures against the recent malicious cyberattacks but did not comment on the ransom demands. The ransom note the gang sent to the company is said to be set at 750 Bitcoins (roughly $12,600,000)
