Hackers hit more businesses through remote access accounts

Hackers broke into payment systems at several northwestern U.S. restaurants via a remote access account belonging to one of their vendors. ISS’ LogMeIn account used by the company to remotely support and manage customer networks was thrice breached. ISS has instituted separate passwords for accessing individual customer accounts following the breach. The incident illustrates the need for businesses to keep a constant eye on third-party access to their networks. Trustwave estimated 63% of 450 data breaches studied by a security vendor were caused by security vulnerabilities introduced by a third party.”]
