Iranian hackers masterminded a three-year-long campaign to win the trust of U.S. politicians and journalists. They used a fake news site to gain access to a network of fake social media profiles. The Iranians used the site to steal stories from Reuters, CNN, BBC, and others. The scheme was so successful that members of Congress, military leaders, defense contractors, lobbyists, and journalists would trust them and accept friend requests from fake writers.
